I prefer to capture animals in a more 'natural' habitat, and I guess for this little guy, I have - the wall of my house.
This is an Asian House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus). Every night in just about every Brisbane household, the distinctive 'chuck chuck chuck' of the Asian House Gecko can be heard. I can actually hear one now as I type. Originally detected in Brisbane in the early 1980s, they spread quickly. I recall seeing a study that estimated that on average, every household in the city is home to 50 individuals.
Due to their round, hard-shelled eggs that resist moisture loss, Asian House Geckos have been successful stowaways, and now have the widest range of any lizard in the world.
